It was another week of unplanned adventures! The first of these adventures took place after my normal Tuesday tea. A friend I met at church my first week here took me to his previous work place, MYB Textiles. He gave me a tour of what is now the last operating lace mill in Newmilns. This included the only lace mill in the world that combines traditional lace mills & modern computer programming, along with several traditional mills. This was one of things that I had wanted to do once I learned more about the town's history back in July, but it quickly became lost in my many plans. I am very grateful I was able to do this & really enjoyed the opportunity to do so. (I have more photos on film)
Before I get to Saturday's unexpected journey, a little more about my week. My evening walks this week have been gorgeous since the sun is setting earlier allowing my walk to align with golden hour. Another bigger thing this week was attempting to plan my Saturday with friends from the Cafe. We had determined that we could finally go to the isle of Arron. However, this did not happen. When trying to nail down planning on Friday, we learned that the ferry was under maintenance until Oct 8th. We have moved it to next weekend.
Instead of that I quickly pivoted to getting a ride to Perth for a friend's ordination & induction for the Free Church of Scotland. Though this was not what I planned for the week, I am very glad I got to attend. This trip allowed me to see my friends who left mid August to move up to Perth for this very reason. It was a good time of celebration & community.
My final surprise this week was a last minute invite for lunch after morning service today. It was another great time getting to know people better while eating good Scottish food. I am very grateful for all the people that God has placed in my life here who have opened up their homes & offered rides to places.
